Rob & Lesley Aldred were recently appointed as Assistant Managers at Sizewell Hall.  They will start work in June 2010.  This is a short introduction to them, a fuller one will follow in the next newsletter.

“We are a happily married couple of 26 years. Lesley originates from Wenhaston & Rob from Felixstowe. We have 2 grown up children Nick 24 who lives in Kesgrave & Jade 22 who lives in Norwich.  Currently both of us work in Felixstowe, Lesley at the General Hospital & Rob as a Manager at the Port.”

We have attended Christchurch Felixstowe (formerly Cavendish Community Church) since its birth in 1989. We are no strangers to Sizewell Hall being regular visitors with our church for the past 18 years witnessing first hand God at work there. We are so excited to be able to be part of its future. ”   Rob & Lesley Aldred

AFRICAN ADVENTURE. Cooks required

Posted by Peter Warnock on 13th February 2009

CYM’s African Adventure Needs Cooks
Over the past 5 years CYM has been delivering African Adventure at Sizewell Hall to local schools; building significant relationships and sharing a little about what it means to be a Christian.  As more schools come along and get involved we continue to need people to help us ensure we can deliver the programme.  We have volunteers helping to deliver sessions, fix and make things around the village and cooking and preparing meals.  As this ministry grows from strength to strength we find ourselves in need particularly of more cooks.

Menus and food orders are prepared in advance by CYM and you will be provided with all the cooking instructions, menus and recipes to make the task as straight forward as possible.  African Adventure for 2009 runs from March to October during the school term with each school visiting for between 2 and 5 days.  Our aim is to ensure children are well fed with a healthy mixture of quality meals.

If you would be interested in serving, supporting and using your skills to help CYM give young people something to believe in then we would love to hear from you.

Please contact Ian France (01473 216712, ian@c-y-m.org.uk) as soon as possible and check out www.africanadventure.org.uk for more details.

Sizewell Hall (School)

Posted by Peter Warnock on 11th March 2008

Sizewell Hall School 1956.jpg

Recently we have had several enquiries about Sizewell Hall when it was a School.  Do you know anything about it? This picture was taken about 1956 and was supplied by Virginia Peace, fourth from the left.  Elaine and Harry Tuyn are in the centre at the top.

Did you attend either the Boarding School or “The Summer Holiday Course”?

Where are you now?

Do you have any pictures that we can share on the web with other visitors?

Please contact us and perhaps you can be reunited with past friends.

When the School at Sizewell Hall closed in the later 1950s, Harry Tuyn started an English girls’ finishing school in Château d’Oex, near Gstaad.  Harry sadley died in Canada many years ago.

I’m glad to see dear old Sizewell Hall is being put to such good use. I was a pupil at Sizewell Hall School in 1952 until it closed in 1955. It was small a coeducational preparatory school for eight to 13-year-olds, joined for the summer by foreign students.
There were only three or four teachers, including the headmaster, Harry Tuyn, a Dutchman who taught us English, French, German, Latin and Greek by turns! It left me, for instance, with a lifelong passion for literature, nature study and music.
We were allowed to make full use of the 35 acres as our playground, except for the area beyond the pond, which was out of bounds in the summer after a boy was bitten by an adder. What was different from other schools I attended is that we seemed to be one community of children, tolerant of our differences in age, sex and background. One fellow pupil was Sheridan Morley, the theatre critic, whom I see in the paper died not long ago.

I would love to get in touch with others who were there at that time. Robert? Wayne? Gijs? Clara? Arnold? Geraldine? Dorothy? Harleh? Karen? Gretel? Mr Hobson? Miss Acheson? I wonder where you are now. Look after yourselves.
Brian

PLAY AREA
The children’s play area was extended 3 years ago and is a great area for children to play and develop their balance and coordination, adults can take part too!  See the pictures of this new facility.  It has already had a lot of use and great excitement as young and old meet the challenge that it gives.

Visitors 07

Posted by Peter Warnock on 23rd July 2007

As we are now into our busy Summer period I thought I would show you some of the groups recently in the Hall.

Can you beat this?  These two ladies have a combined age of 187 yrs. yes that’s right One hundred and eighty seven. They came with a group in June.  A baby just a few weeks old came last August, seen here sitting with a proud grandad.

2 cousins                SV200341.JPG

Each day this group have a vairied programme full of fun and laughter.  A team entertain them with exercise physical as well as spiritual.  Another group recently had Marilyn Baker give a concert one evening, seen here with the group organiser, Kathryn Kyte.

Exercise                 SV200804.JPG

Since the begining of the year we have had 46 different groups in the hall and 8 different groups on the camp site.   The African Adventure groups have to earn their cutlery for mealtimes on the archery field.  One girl was not very good and had to use her fingers!  She loved it!

Ellie                 Chirs Ramsey

It is really great to see the hall being so well used with all sorts of groups both young and old enjoying being together and learning from God.  As we now start the summer school holidays period we now have six weeks of camp as well as groups in the hall.

A group of 90+ Pathfinder Venturers enjoyed a week at the hall and can be seen in some of their activities organized during their stay.

Suffolk Junior Camp 9-14s
Another fantastic 2 weeks of getting closer to God, having a huge amount of fun in the process and developing friendships that last the whole year through.
64 young people, 25 adults leaders, a lot of activity, bible study, music and laughter all go together to make an excellent experience whether you know God well or perhaps are just exploring what all this Christianity lark might mean. Junior Camp is great for the young people and us adults that lead them during their week. Whatever your denomination or background we think you’ll have a fantastic time if you come – well we’re biased – we lead it!!  Andy & Amanda Kirk
